Abstract

Under laboratory conditions, we studied the bioethanol production opportunities from the green macroalgae Ulva sp. by anaerobic fermentation using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and proceeded by an acid or enzymatic pretreatment. Whatever the yeast concentration, the contents of bioethanol recorded were highest after 24 hours of fermentation. The enzymatic saccharification driving on algal extracts has not improved the bioethanol production. Ulva sp. can serve as a substrate for fermentation bioethanol production simply preceded by acid hydrolysis.
