Abstract

In order to determine the capacity of metallic bioaccumulation for seaweeds and its temporal variation, we were interested in the determination of concentration range of traces metals (Lead, Cadmium, Iron, Manganese and Zinc) for three green macroalgae Ulva rigida , Chaetomorpha linum and Caulerpa prolifera collected in the communication area between north lagoon and navigation channel of Tunis seasonally during the period from April 2009 to February 2010. Chemical analysis in seaweeds was determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS). Results showed significant variations according to species and season. For all algal species, concentrations of metals (except for iron) decreased in summer and increased in winter. Caulerpa prolifera showed the highest capacity to accumulate metals than other algal species studied. Thus macroalgues should inform on chemical quality in the lagoon of Tunis.
