About the Bulletin

Scope of the INSTM Bulletin

The INSTM Bulletin: Marine and Freshwater Sciences is published yearly. It is a peer-reviewed open-access Bulletin. It publishes original papers related to Marine and Freshwater Science research in the fields of Oceanography, Biology, Ecology, Biodiversity, Biotechnology, Geology, Pollution, Toxicology, Fishery, Sea-Food and Aquaculture.

History of the INSTM Bulletin

The Bulletin was first published as ‘Bulletin de la Station Océanographique de Salammbô, SOS’, to report the research carried out in the newly created research centre in the city of Salammbô (North of Tunis, Tunisia, 1924) and directed by Henry Heldt. Issue number 1 of the Bulletin was published in 1925. The first paper describes the centre and its objectives “Organisation de la Station Océanographique de Salammbô et de l’Exploitation directe par la Direction Générale des Travaux Publics de la partie Nord du Lac de Tunis”.  SOS continued to publish research results until 1959 when it stopped after 6 years.  In 1966 the Bulletin resumed under the name of ‘Bulletin de l’Institut National Scientifique et Technique d'Océanographie et de Pêche’ as the centre itself changed to ‘Institut National Scientifique et Technique d'Océanographie et de Pêche, INSTOP’’. It continued under this name until 1995. In 1996 the scientific research in the centre had undergone a major restructuring and the research began to cover a larger area. The centre became ‘Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer’ and the Journal ‘Bulletin de  Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer de Salammbô’. The Bulletin has changed in title, form and periodicity over the years. The most recent change is being made in 2022 with the setup of the objective of reaching international standards; it became INSTM Bulletin: Marine and Freshwater Sciences.
