The aim of this study is to use, for the first time, the method of an observer on board to analyze the landings of trawler’s fleet during the first period of fishing campaign of royal shrimp Penaeus kerathurus (Forskål, 1775) (from 15 May to 30 June) in the gulf of Gabes (Tunisia). Fifty nine bottom trawl surveys were mainly aimed to obtain the abundance indices estimated for a series of demersal species. They were carried out from 16 to 26 May 2016, between 15..5 and 39 m depth using two shrimp trawls. Catches of commercials species were evaluated to 1251.49 kg with hourly yields about 12.48 Kg/h. This value varied from a group of species to another. Crustacean’s landings represent 50.61% from total landings by hourly yields evaluated to 6.32 kg/h. The landings of fish’s group represent 37.52% with hourly yields about 4.68 kg/h. Cephalopods landings represent 11.87% with hourly yields evaluated to 1.48 kg/h.
