Abstract

The shrimp, particularly the caramote prawn Penaeus kerathurus, are the most crustacean species exploited in the gulf of Gabes. Since 1993, the speckled shrimp Metapenaeus monoceros, a lesseptian species, appeared in this area and became well adapted to its climatic and environmental conditions. The main objective of this study is to follow the exploitation patterns of this species, to study his relative growth and to estimate the catch composition regard sex. The obtained results show an irregular catch variation in Gabes gulf. From the biometric study carried out, we can deduce that the speckled shrimp relative growth in length and weight are similar. In other hand, the sex-ratio is in favour of females
