A data base constituted, notably of biological parameters of the species and length distributions (from 2003 to 2005) of the caches of different fleet components exploiting Penaeus kerathurus is prepared for length cohort analysis and yield per recruit. These data were collected in the Frame of the project Stock assessment of the benthic resources and ecosystem initiated by life marine resources laboratory. The analysis of this data showed that: - The shrimp stock of P. kerathurus in the gulf of Gabes is in optimum state of exploitation. The fishing mortalities of this stock have a moderate level (mean value around 0.35) and the pattern exploitation is oriented to catch essentially adults. - The decrease in fishing effort would lead to a long term decrease in yield, especially for artisanal fishery. A moderate increase in effort or in length limit at catch has not an appreciable effect on the yield. However, the increase of this size would lead to improve slightly the spawning biomass
