Abstract

Fish farming in Tunisia consists in the farming of sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax, sea bream (Sparus aurata) and tuna. The farming of these animals is subject to the use of veterinary drugs, including antibiotics. However, antibiotic residues in foodstuffs at a greater quantity than defined could present a risk to consumer’s health. A residue monitoring plan is implemented by the veterinary services. Checks are carried out on an ongoing basis every year. No antibiotic residues were detected in the period 2006 to 2013.
