Méta-analyse sur la concentration des métaux lourds (cadmium et plomb) et du DDT dans les produits aquacoles des pays Méditerranéens : le loup de mer

Abstract

In the latest decades with the increasing demand for fish, fish farming is expanding rapidly. While it can be
considered as a good food for human health, fish can contribute significantly to food exposure to contaminants.
The aim of this study is to analyse the concentration of DDT and heavy metals on the Mediterranean farmed sea
bass compared to wild sea bass, by using meta-analytic techniques. The data on the concentration of heavy
metals (cadmium and lead) and DDT both in the wild and farmed sea bass are obtained by a literature research
using mainly Aquatic Science and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA), Medline and other database of scientific articles.
All the studies selected for the meta-analysis are used to compare the concentration of aquaculture products with
harvested products. This study shows a statistically significant difference in the concentration of Cd and Pb in
the lower muscles of the harvested products, while, referring to the concentration of Cd in the liver of sea bass
there has been an increase in the harvested product. The study also showed a statistically significant difference in
the concentration of DDT in the muscles as well as in the liver of sea bass, with higher values in aquaculture
products. The study has highlighted the scarcity of scientific literature in fact there are few studies with few
samples and inconsistent results.
