Abstract

The infection of the cupped Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas by the virus Ostreid herpesvirus-1 is a serious disease which may induce catastrophic mortalities. Such phenomena may hinder the development of the oyster industry in Tunisia. This article presents a study whose objective was the detection of this virus, by the techniques of conventional PCR and real time PCR, using specific primer pairs C2/C6 and OsHVDPFor/OsHVDPRev, among 320 Pacific cupped oysters from an oyster farm located in the lagoon of Bizerte. The results obtained by the two techniques were negative for all of the analyzed samples, suggesting that there was no virus circulation within the livestock during the sampling period and that the oysters analyzed were free of herpes virus.
