Abstract

This study concerns the evaluation of contamination degree by one of the heavy metals, the total mercury, which is analyzed within the tissue of coastal marine water organisms: fish, bivalves, shrimp, cuttle fish. Results of total mercury obtained during this study are varying from (29 plus or minus 14) ppb to (198 plus or minus 18) ppb for all the organisms gathered within the lake of Tunis, the lake of Bizerte, the Gulf of Tunis, the Gulf of Hammamet, and the Gulf of Gabes. Being very low, when compared to the tolerated concentrations fixed by FAO (5000-1000 ppb), mercury results are not dangerous for human health.
