Abstract

The reproductive cycle of the different species of Sphaeroma varies according to the season and place of population distribution. The duration of sexual activity period and the number of broods incubated each year are much more important among the species in lagoons than among the marine species. The comparison drawn between the biological cycle of S. serratum in the Gulf of Tunis and in the Lake of Tunis showed a better fitness for reproduction in the latter in which temperatures are milder and water always quiet. The reproductive cycle of S. serratum is almost the same both in Morocco and in Tunisia, in spite of a slight lag existing during the period of reproduction activity by the females which is more precocious along the Moroccan coast.
