Abstract

The processing of fishing data from 1988 to 1993 of the Tunis southern lake shows that: -the resources are exploited by three fishing gear, "weir"(fixed gear),net and draps. The main species captured in the lake are mullet (Mugil saliens, M. ramada, M. auratus, M. cephalus, M. labrosus)and eel(Anguilla anguilla). The catches show a stable general tendency, while, production of nets and "weir" are decreasing. The "weir" provide the large part of the lake catches. The former shows the dominance of two species of mullet and the increase of the immature fish proportion specially in summer period .(3)Catches of nets are, also, made largely of mullet but mature individuals. The pots are installed to catch eel which is of high commercial value. However, the level of landings decreases these last years. Finally, the problem of pollution in the southern of the lake of Tunis compromises, seriously, the fishing and the biodiversity in this area.
