Abstract

This study aims to adapt a model of a Japanese big mesh mid-water trawl to the Tunisian fisheries for trawler powered of 650 horse power engine. The trawl is made of Dyneema and has four equal panels. The test showed that this trawl is suitable for northern fisheries of Tunisia and it is efficient to catch deep water small pelagic fish especially sardine and anchovy. Moreover, the performance of this trawl is important because of its big horizontal and vertical opening with about 35mètres. The catches are composed, more than 99%, of pelagic species.
