The selectivity of mediterranean trawl and the shrimp trawl were studied in the Tunis gulf. The experiments took place on board "HANNOUN". The results obtained in this study show that the two bottom trawls have a lower selectivity, because the 50% retention lengths for the more important species in the capture obtained by the two trawls are lower than the maturity lengths of this species. From the selection factors of the more important species obtained in this study and the maturity lengths of this species the minimum coded mesh size of the bottom trawls used in the Tunisian fisheries must be at least equal to 48mm.
