Abstract

This work constitutes a comparative study between reproductive parameters of Caranx crysos and those of Caranx rhonchus from the gulf of Gabes. To determine sexual maturity, sexual cycle and spawning periodicity, a total of 1668 specimens of Caranx crysos (95mm TL 416 mm) and 1313 specimens of Caranx rhonchus (10mm TL 306 mm) were collected. Caranx rhonchus occurred sexual maturity (TL50% females = 182,09 mm and TL50% males = 182,2 mm) before Caranx crysos (TL50% females = 259,79 mm and TL50% males = 245,88 mm). Monthly changes in the Gonado-Somatic Index (GSI%) showed that sexual cycles of males and females for two species are synchronous. Reproductive period was from March to September for Caranx crysos and from March to November for Caranx rhonchus. Spawning period of Caranx rhonchus (October-November) is more longer that Caranx crysos (September).
