Abstract

Different techniques have been used to separate the length frequency distributions to determinate the average length of the various cohorts. Growth parameters L infinity (mm), K (an super(-1)) and t sub(o)) were calculated using the growth model of Von Bertalanffy (1938) and the data of age and mean length. The mathematical function of Von Bertalanffy demonstrated that female growth is lower than males in the three Gulfs of Tunisia. The growth rate is higher for mantis shrimp captured in the Gulf of Gabes in comparison with the Gulf of Hammamet and Tunis. The population at sea consists of 3 year-classes and the life span is estimated at about 3 years.
