Sfax salt work constitutes a potential site for exploitation and production of local Artemia . High quantities of Artemia (cysts and biomass) are yearly exploited and used in larval nutrition, throughout the world. That's why we have decided to analyze the cysts and the biomass of Artemia exploited in Sfax salt work, which is surrounded by many sources of pollution. The objective is to determine the concentration of some trace metals: Hg,Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn. The analyses were done with Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. Results showed that the concentrations are low in both cysts and biomass, compared to other kinds of Artemia used in aquaculture. Consequently, the Artemia from Sfax salt work may be used as larval nutrition without any chemical risk.
