The diet of bastard grunt Pomadasys incisus (Haemulidae) was studied, through quantitative and qualitative analysis of stomach contents of 464 individuals. These samples (from 14.30 to 28.70 cm fork length) were caught by trawling and / or line, from the region of Nouadhibou, during the period from February 2009 to January 2010. This study showed that the coefficient of vacuity means was 56.90%. This coefficient varied with the sex, the size and the seasons. A total of 23 prey species belonging to 17 major groups Anomura, Amphipoda, Brachyura, Cirripedia, Isopoda, Mysidacea, Tanaidacea, Stomatopoda, Bivalves, Gastropods, Cephalopods, Annelids, Echinoderms, Teleostei, Sipunculids) has been accurately identified. It appears from this analysis that P. incisus of Nouadhibou coasts feed mainly on Crustaceans and Annelids. Molluscs , Teleostei, Echinoderms and Sipunculids were incidental prey. Among the Crustacea, the Amphipoda Ampeliscidae are its favourite food. In annelids prey, the Neiridae occupied the first place. The trophic level, estimated at 3.5, showed that this species is omnivorous with preference for animal prey. This feed pattern varied seasonally and among the size of fish.
