Massive mortalities of fishes were observed in Boughrara lagoon(Tunisia) during summer 1991. Following this ecological crisis, the evolution of hydrological parameters was studied during the year 1993. The monitoring of these parameters shows that Boughrara lagoon is affected by chronic eutrophication, which generate dystrophic crisis, in particular during july, august and September, where phytoplanktonic blooms are frequent. The results obtained shows also that the monitored lagoon is submitted to a high level of organic pollution. The principal source of this pollution are the outfalls of intensive aquaculture projects implanted in Boughrara lagoon and on its coast.
