Abstract

After recalling the taxonomic status and the Asian origin of the Barbus genus, this synthetic study presents two theses describing the dispersion ways of Barbus " sensu stricto ", from Western Asia to the West of Europe and North Africa. This very diversified genus, is represented in Tunisia by only two species : Barbus callensis, abundant and largely spread from the North to the Centre of the country, and Barbus antinorii, a desert species, rare and limited to one southern oasis
