Les metaux traces (Cd, Pb, Hg) et les hydrocarbures totaux dans les sediments superficiels de la frange cotiere du golfe de Gabes

The main objective of this study is to investigate the state of pollution of the superficial sediments from the coast of Gabes gulf by analysing total aromatic hydrocarbons, cadmium (Cadmium); lead (Pb) and mercury (Hg). Sampling of sediment was carried out in 25 stations by a Van Veen grabs. Cadmium and Pb concentrations were determinated by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry with graphite furnace (AAS Varian 220Z). Hg and total aromatic hydrocarbons were analysed by AAS with Cold Vapour and UV fluorescence, respectively. Concentrations of Cadmium and Hg varied between 0.10 – 26.34 and between 0,11 – 2.12 mg/kg dry weight, respectively, the most polluted area by these two elements is in the South of Gabes. The concentration of Pb varied between 7.64 and 106.53 mg/kg dry weight, the region of Skhira the most contaminated area by this element. Results showed that concentrations of total aromatic hydrocarbons varied between 0.5 and 95 mg/kg dry weight. The higher concentrations are observed in the harbour of Gabes and in the Mahres area.
