Abstract

In order to develop low cost nutritionally balanced diets for Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), attempts have been made to replace conventional feed ingredients with less expensive, locally available unconventional protein and carbohydrate sources, from agro-industrial residues. The present work was conducted over 75 days-period to evaluate tomato meal (TM) as soybean meal (SBM) substitute in diet for Nile Tilapia. The TM was included in the diets at various levels of 0 %, 10 %, 20 % and 30 % (diets A0, A10 A20 and A30, respectively). Four isonitrogenous (27 % crude protein) and isocaloric diets (17.0 KJ/g) were prepared and fed fish initially weighing 20.54 ± 0.08 g with three replications for each treatment.
