Last recorded, from the Mediterranean, at Sousse in 1926, the tropical marine alga Caulerpa racemosa has recently been dredged from a mud /sand bottom at 15 m off Skhira in the Gulf of Gabes and in Salakta Bay at 10 m. It has also been reported from Mahdia. These new records may show southward movement since the original record, or the sp may have been merely overlooked hitherto. Its presence confirms the tropical affinities of the Gulf of Gabes.
