Abstract

A case of hermaphroditism in the small spotted dogfish Scyliorhinus canicula (Lnne, 1758) is reported. Externally, the specimen is of the adult male morphological type. On the left side of the coelomic cavity one male genital tract and one testis, both normal have been found. On the right side were discovered one apparently normal premature female genital tract, very rudimentary male genital tract and one ovotestis, the ovarian part of which might be functional.
