L'Institut National Scientifique et Technique d'Oceanographie et de Peche de Salammbo: cinquante annees de recherche appliquees a la peche (1924-1974)

Tunisia, with its 1200 km of coast and its key location between oriental and occidental basins of the Mediterranean, has a strategic position for the scientific exploration of this sea. The country possesses an institution which has been active during fifty years: National Scientifique and Technique Institute of Oceanography and Fishery of Salammbo. This paper describes the infrastructures as well as the evolution of this institution from its creation in 1924 to its situation in 1974. It also emphasizes on the needs for future changes to allow its contribution to development of fishery sector.
