Abstract

The prospection of the northern region of Tunisia interests the trawlable bottoms between -35 m and -260 m of depth. According to hydrological reading, it proves that the surface waters (S less than or equal to 37 ppt) are subject at the influence of Atlantic water, then that the depth waters (S less than or equal to 37.5 ppt) are rather Mediterranean. The surface temperatures change according to seasons, those of depths are stable. The nature of bottoms is dissimilar: it is muddy and sand-muddy in the Gulf of Tunis; hard to stony in the region of Bizerte, Cap-Serrat and the Galite Islands on this side of -100 m of depth. Concerning the fish potential, the Gulf of Tunis and the region of Bizerte show the best mean yield per hour of which the maximum is about 102 kg.
