Abstract

This work signals for the first time the presence of the phanerogam Halophila stipulacea (Forsskal) in Tunisia. This lessepsian migrant was observed in big quantities in the fishing nets of boats operating in shallow waters of the gulf of Gabes. After interviewing fishermen of the region, we noticed that this specie colonizes muddy bottoms at depths varying between -3 and -7 meters in front of the commercial and the fishing harbors of Sfax (South - Est of Tunisia).
