Abstract

The allozyme variation of 5 Tunisian Artemia populations was performed to assess the genetic resources of the species and to estimate the intra and interpopulation genetic variability. Five enzymes encoded by 11 loci were analysed; seven of them are polymorphic: PEP3, PEP4, IDH1, IDH2, MDH1, MDH2 and APH. Among these loci, IDH2 and MDH1 may be considered as diagnostic ones. The estimated genetic parameters are from 0.051 to 0.364, from 36.4% to 45.5% and from 1.3 to 1.7 respectively for observed heterozygosity, the percentage of polymorphic loci and the number of alleles per locus. The Nei's genetic distance based on allelic frequency, ranging from 0.087 to 1.105, showed a clear divergence of the sebkhet Sijoumi population.
