Abstract

Population dynamics of the amphipod Talitrus saltator (Montagu, 1808) was studied monthly from June 2007 to December 2008 in Bizerta beach (37 degree 19'17.1"N; 09 degree 51'57.3"E). During this period, 2073 specimens of Talitrus saltator were identified. The reproductive season extended from March to November, with a sexual rest period during a winter. The global sex ratio was equal to 0.74, revealing that is biased in favour of females, however, during the months of July, August and October 2007 and the months of May, August and September 2008, it is biased in favour of males. During the study period, three cohorts were identified on the first sampling date and twelve new cohorts were detected later. Life span was estimated at 4 to 10 months
