Abstract

The benthic fauna of the Gulf of Tunis was sampled by dredging aboard the R/V HANNIBAL. Bryozoans showed a relatively high diversity with 41 families and 76 species. Cyclostomate bryozoans count 9 species including 5 species new additions to the Tunisian fauna ((Annectocyma tubulosa (Busk, 1875), Frondipora verrucosa (Lamouroux, 1821), Eurystrotos compacta (Norman, 1866), Tubulipora liliacea (Pallas, 1766), Crisia denticulata (Lamarck, 1816)). Ctenostomate bryozoans count only 3 species, among them Pherusella tubulosa (Ellis et Solander, 1786) is newly encountered in Tunisia. All species are listed and described especially using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) illustrations. Identification's key of genus is given after a brief systematic revision. Currently, cyclostomate and ctenostomate bryozoans in Tunisia count respectively 8 and 24 species. However, the registered values do not explain certainly the real diversity that must be more important.
