In the reservoir of Bir M'Chergua, planktonic biomass is strictly related to abiotic factors such as thermic stratification. Indeed, the autumnal and spring phytoplanktonic peaks have been noticed during homothermic periods when zooplanktonic biomass reaches its maximum following these peaks. Biological successions appear with the following phytoplanktonic populations: Oeridinians, Cyanophytes, Diatoms and Chlorophycea.
