A naturally occurring population of Pacific Oysters Crassostrea gigas was discovered in the Ichkeul Lake (Tunisia) in the littoral zone in 1985. The reproduction of this population was observed in 1986 and a collection in August 1986 yielded an average of 3.15 plus or minus 1.3 spat per shell. This spat was bred in Ichkeul and Bizerte Lakes and Monastir Lagoon.
