Survey of the quantitative data of the meiofauna and in particular the nematofauna in Ghar El Melh lagoon (TUNISIA) has revealed a spatial heterogeneity of the water and sediment quality in this area. The dissolved oxygen and concentration of hydrocarbons and total organic carbon deposited in sediments are key factors for the nematofauna. The free-living nematodes have responded to the lagoon disruption (poorly oxygenated water, loaded sediment in hydrocarbons and in organic matter) by a significant decrease in densities and biomasses.
